Finding low cost treatment of dog rabies in India.

Dear all,

Today I am writing this blog in the middle of my research which is under process. WHO and OIE are trying to control dog mediated rabies from world by 2030. Which I think will never be possible without controlling rabies at the dog's level, as 99% of the rabies in India is spreading through dogs. So, we are in great need of mass vaccination of dogs.

In many states of India including Himachal Pradesh we are facing shortage of Anti- rabies vaccination, and many poor farmers of our hilly regions are not able to afford even PrEP for their dogs.

Presently I am working on intradermal route of vaccine administration in dogs instead of using subcutaneous and intramuscular routes .

For both PrEP and PEP we are trying to use IDRV and comparing it with IMRV.

As a parallel study to human rabies , they are using IDRV since ages and are getting protective antibody titres against rabies after 0,3,7 of PEP protocol.

But presently in India we are using 0,3,7,14,28 PEP regime in dogs and other animals. But if we use IDRV and get promising antibody titres 14 days post bite . We may introduce a new protocol for PEP.

At present for preventive vaccination we are using SCRV and IMRV 1ml ARV . And repeating it after 28 days as booster then annual boosters.

But if we use IDRV a single dose of 0.2 ml IDRV may have immunity upto 1 year. We are working on it too.

Just doing a little effort to benefit the poor farmers of my state and country.

I have just started from my native place , Rampur Bushahar after getting all the permissions from scientific committee. Now , fingers crossed . Hoping for good of all .

If this study goes fine this is going to reduce the cost of treatment of dog rabies / animal rabies by 80% . And we will work on making this treatment free to all the farmers who have domesticated animals/ pets.

God bless all. 🙏🏻
